Polistic Yoga

A grounded way to use the pole for strength, alignment, and longevity.

For a long time, the vertical pole world has lived in 2 places: high flying pole fitness and performance art.

But there is another way.

A way that is not about climbing higher, performing for an audience, fighting gravity, or training for the mirror. It is about coming back down to the ground, coming back into your body, and building real strength from your foundation up.

In the beginning, I was taking my yoga poses off the ground.

My name is Jenesis, and Polistic Yoga was not created from a trend. It came from my real life, my body, my years on the pole, and my lifelong search for a way to feel strong without having to push myself past my limits.

From the Stage to the Studio

I started pole dancing professionally at 18 years old and did it for 8 intense years. The stage taught me a lot about discipline, movement, sensuality, and physical power. It also taught me how easy it is to disconnect from your body when your body becomes your job.

My years as a professional dancer taught me both power and the cost of pushing past my body.

But yoga was always running alongside that part of my life.

When I was 20, I met my first yoga teacher, an Indian man in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We will call him Jay. This was long before yoga lived on social media. He taught through stories, repetition, presence, and the way he lived.

He taught me that you do not eat an hour before practice. He taught me that the energy in your space reflects what is happening inside of you. And he taught me to have deep compassion and empathy for every living, breathing thing.

That was not textbook yoga. It was lived yoga.

Meeting Jay sent me into years of study: the Bhagavad Gita, Bhakti yoga, Kundalini, Hatha, Iyengar, breathwork, devotion, posture, and the relationship between the mind, body, and spirit.

At 22, I became certified to teach yoga. At 24, in 2004, I used the money I had made dancing to open my first holistic center. It included a yoga studio, but it was more than a yoga studio. It was a place where people could come back to themselves.

That same year, I brought my first pole home.

By 2008, the 2 worlds I had lived in, yoga and pole, finally came together.

Why I Created Polistic Yoga

I did not create Polistic Yoga because I wanted to make pole dance into something else. I created it because I was struggling in my own yoga practice.

I was having trouble with handstands. When I began using the pole as support, it helped me deepen my yoga practice in a way that felt safer for my body. It gave me something to hold. It helped me find my balance, stay with the movement, and build strength without forcing myself into a position my body was not ready for.

I have ADHD, and the yoga pole gives me something to focus on. It helps me stay present with my movement instead of getting lost or distracted. It grounds me. It gives my body a clear point of reference.

I also live with joint laxity, subluxations in my ribs, shoulders, and elbows, vertigo, and POTS symptoms. So many forms of movement felt like they were pulling me apart, making me dizzy, or setting me up for another injury.

The yoga pole changed that for me.

It became a tool that helped me feel safer in my body while still allowing me to deepen my practice. I designed Polistic Yoga so other people could have that too: a way to build strength, posture, balance, and body awareness without having to override their own limits.

Vera Told Me to Keep the Poses on the Ground

When I first began putting yoga and pole together, my instinct was to go up. I wanted to climb. I wanted to fly. I thought I had to make it look like everything else people were doing on a pole.

But my mentor Vera stopped me.

She was 78. I was 28. And she gave me one clear direction: keep the poses on the ground.

At first, I did not fully understand it. But Vera saw something I could not see yet. The pole was not just something to hang from. It could be a stabilizer, a guide, a balancing tool, and a place to come home to your own alignment.

She reminded me that just because everybody else was going up did not mean that we had to. We needed to stay grounded.

That is where Polistic Yoga began.

In 2015, Vera had a massive stroke that left her unable to speak or move for 7 years. Around that same time, my own life started falling apart. I went through trauma, depression, and a season where I felt completely disconnected from myself.

I took my pole down. I packed it away. I did not touch it for 2 years.

Coming Back to the Pole

In 2018, the vision came back.

I knew I could not keep running from what I was here to build. I pulled my journals with Vera out of storage. I put my yoga pole back up. And I started practicing what she had taught me: slow down, stay grounded, and let the body tell the truth.

I spent the next year refining the 52 poses of the Polistic Yoga system with input from medical doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and yogi masters.

We were not trying to create another fitness trend. We were creating a method built for posture, alignment, stability, breath, nervous system support, and learning how to move with your body instead of against it.

What Makes Polistic Yoga Different From Pole Dance?

Pole dance is a powerful art form, athletic practice, and part of my own history. It gave me a life, a career, and a deep understanding of what the body is capable of. Polistic Yoga was not created to replace pole dance. It was created because I discovered a different way the pole could support the body.

Polistic Yoga is practiced barefoot and grounded. There is no climbing and no pressure to perform. The yoga pole is used as a stabilizing tool that helps you feel your alignment, engage your core, explore your movement, and stay connected to your own body.

It is not trying to be pole dance. It is yoga on a pole, built from the ground up.

What Polistic Yoga Is Built to Support

Polistic Yoga is a ground based yoga pole practice. You stay close to the earth and connected to the pole as a tool for feedback, support, and alignment.

Polistic Yoga is designed as a grounded practice that meets each poler where they are.

It is especially meaningful for people who feel disconnected from their body, have been told to just push through, or are tired of fitness spaces that make them feel like they have to perform.

More awareness of alignment and joint stability. The yoga pole gives you feedback you cannot get on a mat alone. It can help you slow down, find your center, strengthen with intention, and avoid overextending.

A more supported nervous system. The practice is breath led, grounded, and intentional. It gives you a place to pause and reconnect with your body.

Core and pelvic floor connection. Polistic Yoga teaches breath, core, hips, spine, posture, and pelvic floor to work together.

A practice you can keep for life. This is not about beating your body into shape in 30 days. It is about building a relationship with your body that becomes stronger, wiser, and more supportive over time.

The 52 poses are organized through 4 quadrants and 4 connectors. That structure helps polers understand where they are in the method and how each movement connects back to the whole body.

You do not need pole dance experience to begin. You do not need to climb, invert, be flexible, or already be strong. You simply need a little space, a yoga pole, and a willingness to begin where you are.

Walk Away From the Mirror. Come Back to Yourself.

Polistic Yoga is not about looking a certain way. It is about remembering that your body is not here to be punished, pushed past its limits, or performed for approval.

Your body is your home. Your posture matters. Your breath matters. Your foundation matters.

You do not have to go higher to become more powerful. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is come back to the ground, take hold of your pole, and begin again.
