What’s the difference in Polistic Yoga and Pole Dance?
The pole is controversial, but most have never heard the real story or experienced the benefits.
Pole Dancing has been the most common form of Pole Fitness in America for the last 100 years.
However, “Poling” has been in Asia and India as a male dominated sport for centuries.
In the 1920s to the “Hootchie Coochie” Belly Dancers birthed the modern pole dance.
The Hootchie Coochie dance was a sensuous dance involving movement of the hips
typically done by middle eastern women, hence the term “exotic dancer.”
In the 1920s the dancers began using the tent poles in sideshows at the State Fairs to lure in customers.
It wasn’t until the 1980’s that the pole moved from tents to the bar, and was combined with burlesque dancing.
In the ’90s Fawnia Mondey created the first pole training video to use the pole in fitness exercises.
Since its introduction into the fitness world, the pole has become a relevant fitness tool for people across the planet.
There is even Pole Olympics now, and one day we will see Pole Dance/Fitness as a legit, respected sport.
Polistic Pole Yoga is the newest form of Pole. It has taken the Pole from the strip club to the yoga studio, now, safely home to you.
There are 52 Polistic Poses, all practiced on the ground. Making this the only Pole practice open to people of all ages and sizes, and the only Yoga practice that uses a pole.
In Polistic Yoga the poler practices barefoot and wears comfortable clothing.
The pole is used as an energy “tuning” tool. Think of the pole as a rod or a staff: a tuning tool to hold on to for balance and guidance.
It is like a resistance/stretching/grounding/balancing healing tool.
It is also used as a stabilizing tool for extra balance. The Poler uses their own body weight to move through the poses.
What is Yoga? Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices that originated in India.
The term yoga has been synonymous with its asanas (postures) or as a form of exercise.
Swami Vivekananda was the first yogi to advocate Yoga in America in the late 1800’s. In the 1920s western medical researchers began studying yoga as a science. There were periods of criticism and paranoia against yoga in America, and that is still prevalent in some religious cults today. In the ’60s yoga peeked in the United States until the ’80s.
Dean Ornish, a follower of Swami Satchidananda connected yoga to heart health and legitimized yoga as purely physical exercise outside of esotericism circles, unconnected to any religion.
Polistic Yoga incorporates yoga asanas with the pole.
In Pole Dance and Pole Fitness, the poler uses their skin to attach to the pole for tricks and moves.
Therefore, the poler is left wearing little clothing.
We remain grounded in Polistic Yoga, so you can wear anything that is comfortable.
